The biggest questions I get asked from people when I tell them I specialize in boudoir photography is…you guessed it…
What is boudoir?
There are a couple different ways of answering this. There is the technical answer…and then then the not so technical answer. That may sound silly but if you keep reading it will all make sense!
So, the technical answer: Boudoir is an intimate type of portraiture, usually of woman. The portraits are meant to make women feel beautiful and show off their REAL selves. Sometimes women give them as gifts to their significant others. I have done several different bridal boudoir sessions, anniversary, birthday sessions, etc. This isn’t the exciting answer. Now here is the good stuff. Boudoir is not just about taking sexy pictures in lingerie. It is SOO much more than that. Boudoir is gaining the self confidence to love who you are. The biggest excuse I hear about women who WANT a boudoir session but WAIT? “I want to lose weight”. My biggest goal as a boudoir photographer is to make women love who they are. No matter what weight they are, body shape they have, scars on their body, experiences they have been through, etc. Everyone deserves to be loved for who they are. It is important to start with ourselves because if you can’t love yourself…who else will? Self love is so important. It is a way to give society a big ole middle finger. Some women get so worked up over their stretch marks and I want women to embrace them. Have a birth mark? Don’t cover it up – it is a part of who you are.
One of my goals as a boudoir photographer is to watch the women I work with leave my studio with confidence and self love. I love making other women feel good about themselves. Sometimes you just need someone to SHOW you how beautiful you are and that is what I am here for.
