Jenifer Acosta – Wonder Woman Wednesday

Hey lovelies!

This year I am doing something a little different! I am going to be featuring a fellow #bossbabe in our community on the first Wednesday of every month! If you have a fellow boss babe in mind that you think should be featured feel free to email me at

This month I am featuring Jenifer Acosta! I met Jen only a few months ago and love her dearly. You probably recognize the name around Downtown Bay City because her company Jenifer Acosta Development is bringing the downtown area back! We are so lucky to have her.

What made you start doing what you do?

I founded Jenifer Acosta Development in 2015 as I was tired of looking at vacant historic buildings in my hometown and wanted to find ways to redevelop them. I started simply one project at a time. Figuring out the best business plan, future use, and design for a project. Each project or building is a business plan and endeavor of it’s own; from financing, design, construction, and programming the space, it’s my job to synthesize it all and build a team to execute it.

What are your short and long term goals for your business?

My overriding goals are always to execute details of projects to the best of my ability. In order to do so, I’m mindful of my capacity. It’s better to do less and do it well than to do more.

What is the best thing about your job?

The best thing about my job is that I’m always learning new things. This year I’ve made it a priority to learn more on construction techniques, last year was all about looking at ways to do small infill buildings and simplifying the financial methods.

If you could give one piece of advice to other women what would it be?

Take risks. Too often we impose self-limiting behaviors and play it safe. Instead, what if you spoke up in the meeting? What if you set a big goal and work towards it? When we take calculated risks we may fail or succeed but either way we’ll certainly grow.
