So for this month’s Wonder Woman Wednesday I am introducing you to one of my very best friends! Kaitlyn MacGregor, owner of Kaitlyn the Traveling Artist. I don’t want to go too far into an intro so she can do that herself! I started working with Kaitlyn in March of 2018 (a year ago this month!) as the exclusive hair and makeup artist for all of the Boudoir by Alexa clients! After only working with Kaitlyn for ONE MONTH we had one of our very first award! I knew from the beginning we were a match made in heaven! So I will shut up and put the spotlight over to her!
Hello! My name is Kaitlyn MacGregor and I am a traveling makeup artist, henna tattoo artist, and nail technician.
What made you start doing what you do?
Since I can remember I have always had a fascination with the beauty world. I have naturally curly hair and when I was younger, straight hair seemed so cool to me and it was something I always wanted to have. So, I received a flat iron as a gift when I was 12 and started straightening my hair daily. From there I would experiment and maybe flip the ends on my hair in or out. Middle school came about and I wanted something totally different. Bangs. So, one night at home, I took a pair of scissors out of the kitchen drawer and chopped myself some bangs. Then came the face frames. My friends caught on, of course, and would ask me to do their hair for school dances and sometimes their makeup. During high school when I would paint my nails and let them just chip away throughout the days, my mom gave me a piece of advice that has stuck with me ever since. She took my hand and told me “Glamour girls don’t have chipped nails, they always have their nails painted fresh.” I tried to make it a point to have nice nails ever since. Henna tattoos were always intriguing to me, I would get one every chance I could get. One of my friends even brought me henna from her trip to Thailand and that’s where the henna experimenting began. After high school I decided to go to Cosmetology school because I thought hair was my passion in life. Throughout school, it was the spa atmosphere that I was drawn to. After graduating, I moved to a couple different cities and tried out different salons and have really found my way to downtown Bay City where I’m falling more in love with what I do everyday. Every place that I have been, every person that I have met, and every experience that I have had has brought me to where I am today. I’m constantly changing and morphing into the new version of myself that influences the direction my career is going. I love it!
What are your short and long term goals for your business?
Some short term goals I have for my business are to learn and excel at the art of eyelash extensions and microblading during the year of 2019. A long term goal for me is to open up my own business. I would love to dive into that more but I’m going to let it be a surprise!
What is the best thing about your job?
There are so many amazing things about my job! First of all, the freedom to be as creative as I want to be. The possibilities are endless, I’m always coming up with new ideas and game plans, it’s so fun! Second of all, the fact that I get to travel. I put the word “travel” in my name because I want anyone who inquires about me or my business will know right away that I am willing and wanting to travel. Like, let me travel to you! I love going on site to provide services, I get to see new places, check out different venues, and meet a ton of cool people along the way. And third of all, I love all of the amazing people who surround me on a day to day basis while I do my job. Sometimes I wonder if this is even real life because how can I be so lucky to be surrounded by so many goal-driven, motivated, happy people? That kind of energy is so contagious and makes me excited to want to keep growing as an individual and a girl boss.
If you could give one piece of advice to other women what would it be?
My piece of advice I would give to women would be to stop caring what other people think. Who cares if someone disagrees with what you’re passionate about? Who cares if they think your ideas are too far fetched or unreachable? That’s THEIR opinion and that’s why they are where they are and you are where you are. Keep going after what you love and don’t let anyone stop you because they’re too scared to go after what they love! Just be yourself, you will be so much happier.
