In 2019, I had a crazy idea. I wanted to open up a lingerie boutique.
Why? That’s a really great question. At that point in my life I had been a professional boudoir photographer for 4 years and I had one consistent piece of feedback from most of my clients: finding what to wear for their boudoir session was a pain in the ass. In the Great Lakes Bay region there were very limited options. Victoria’s Secret was basically the only option and it is no actual secret they aren’t a very good company for a multitude of reasons that I won’t get into here. Amazon was a waste of time because of the sizing and styles from all the different sellers. It is like playing a guessing game as to what will actually show up and if it did…who knew if it would even fit. Lingerie is a mind game like no other.
Over my years of being a boudoir photographer I have come to learn SO much about the different styles and what worked best for different body types. I am a self-proclaimed lingerie expert so I made the jump. There was a pitch competition happening put on by several different local organizations so I entered not expecting much out of it. After 5 months and several rounds through this pitch competition I ended up winning the Grand Prize of $10,000 beating out over 30 other businesses. What was just an idea became something very real in the matter of weeks. Once I had that 10k in my bank account it was a whirlwind of flying to NYC to meet with brands and designers to figure out what inventory I wanted to carry in store, signing a lease and figuring out how the hell to hire employees.
Lex & Co. turned out to be so much more than I could have even imagined. We had a rough start considering COVID shut the world down two weeks before our grand opening but overall I am super proud of everything it turned out to be. Not only did I create a space for my boudoir clients to come and have wardrobe consultations with me in person before even coming into the studio for their session but it is for the women in the community to come get fitted for a bra too. When I flew out to NYC in early 2020 I became a certified bra fit specialist to help serve you all in a whole new way. This allows me to create a much more inclusive experience for those that book their session with me.
I proudly carry 28 to 44 bands and A up to I cups in store and most bodysuits up to a 4XL. I would hate for anyone to walk into Lex & Co and feel like they don’t belong. Whether you are looking for something sexy for your boudoir session, an everyday bra (or two!) or even something sporty to work out in we have something for you. What is even better is that it is located right downstairs from the studio too. You can shop us in person at 908 Washington Avenue in downtown Bay City, directly across from State Theater or online at www.lexandcompany.co <3
